What is Cataract?

Clouding of the natural crystalline clear lens inside the eye is termed as Cataract. Cataracts often develop slowly and can affect one or both eyes. Symptoms may include faded colours, blurry vision, halos around light, trouble with bright lights, and trouble seeing at night.

Information about Cataract

  • It is an age related change and usually seen in people above 50 years of age.
  • Less common causes include injury, metabolic diseases, inflammation in the eye etc.
  • Cataract blurs the vision since it causes transmission block for light rays.
  • It leads to loss of quality vision.
  • Cataract can develop faster in one or both the eyes.
  • Once the cataract is detected surgery is the only ideal treatment.
  • When cataract starts affecting the daily activities it is better to get it operated.
  • Once the cataract is removed there is no scope for the cataract to develop again.
  • Sometimes the blurring of vision occurs due to thickening of the supporting membrane for the IOL (posterior capsular opacity) it can be corrected with YAG Laser capsulotomy.

  • Advanced IOL’s like fold-able mono-focal, Multifocal, Aspheric, Aberration free and Toric IOL’s will be implanted for quality vision.
  • In Mono-focal IOL implantation, reading glasses will be prescribed.
  • In Multi-focal IOL implantation both for distance and near, dependency on the glasses will be reduced.

Sunayana Eye Hospital is having state of the art operation theatre with sophisticated equipments to perform the above procedure.
